How can I get the VIN?

The car is for sale or belongs to someone else

Ask directly for the VIN or, even better, directly for the Ultimate Vehicle Check History Report. You could also make a note of the VIN when inspecting the car.

The car is already mine

You can find the VIN in the vehicle documents and also in several places inside the vehicle.
